A great amount of bone resection which is often needed in the surgery of the primary spinal tumor may cause instability of the spinal column. Therefore, the spinal instrumentation in combination with the bone graft may be the most feasible method for the postoperative care of a patient and the stable bone union. The transpedicular Cotrel-Dubousset instrumentation in combination with the bone graft was applied to three patients with primary spinal tumors: hemangioma of the nineth thoracic vertebra, neurilemmoma and aneurysmal bone cyst of the eleventh thoracic vertebra. The patients were allowed to ambulate with orthosis within a week after the opration and stable bone union was achieved in all of them.
