Biochemical analysis on protein composition of peripheral motor and sensory nerve by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.

For the repair of the peripheral nerve injury, it is important to differentiate motor and sensory dominant funiculi.We investigated the protein composition in the motor and the sensory nerves of the monkey radial nerve and cauda equina by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.The findings indicated that there is no remarkable difference in protein composition between the motor and the sensory nerves.Some biochemical techniques have been reported to differentiate peripheral motor and sensory nerve. But they can be used only for fresh nerve injuries. And it is important to find the method to differentiate both nerves in old nerve injury.We are going to investigate the protein composition of the motor and the sensory nerves in damaged condition.
