A Rare Case Report of the Fracture in the Old Reconstructive Region with Alumina-Ceramic Filler.

The alumina-filler, which has been confirmed to be biocompatible, has been applied as artificial bone filler. To our knowledge, there was no report on histological findings of the old reconstructive region with alumina-ceramic filler.The further investigations have been necessary on the destiny of alumina filler in the long-term follow-up study.A 48-year-old man, in the traumatic accident, sustained fracture of the right femoral shaft where reconstruction had been performed with mixture of alumina-ceramic filler and autogenous bone chip for fibrous dysplasia 4 years before. His trauma was accompanied by other fractures.The osteosynthesis was done and the bone healing was obtained in the all fractured bone. The histological affinity between ceramics and bones in long term was ascertained to be satisfactory. The method of drilling into the reconstructed area with ceramics was developed and appeared effective.
