Seven extremities with ipsilateral tibial and femoral fractures (Floating knee) were reviewed. All the patients were in traffic accidents, and the average age of the five males and two females was 34.1 years (range, 16-66).The patients were classified according to Fraser's classification, using the criteria for assessment described by Karlstrom.Excellent results were achieved in only two patients. Two patients were considered to have good results, three were acceptable and there were no poor cases. Patients with articular fractures of both sides of the knee (Type II c) did poorly in this series. Rigid internal fixation of both bones and an early start of ROM exercises of the knee obtained better results than conservative management.
