We performed muscle release operation included lengthening of the medial hamstrings, the psoas and gracilis for correction of adduction and internal rotation deformity of the hip in cerebral palsy. However, we did not achieve good correction in many cases using this procedure. This was probably due to hypertonicity of the hamstring portion of the adductor magnus' causing residual deformity. We therefore added ten otomy of this portion for cases with residual deformity and by doing this the deformity improved. We concluded that the hamstring portion of the adductor magnus was one of the causes of adduction and internal rotation deformity of the hip in cerebral palsy and the tenotomy of this portion was indispensable to gain adequate correction.
