We report a rare case of traumatic dislocation of the hip in a child. The patient was a 10-year-old boy injured in a traffic accident. His left hip joint was in a flexion, internal rotation and adduction position at the time of injury, and X-rays showed posterior dislocation. We immediately perfomed manipulative reduction and indirect traction on the hip joint. On the 3rd week after reduction, he was allowed to start the following exercises; range of motion exercises and hip muscle exercises none of which were weight-bearing.On the 12th week, avascular necrosis disappeared on Magnetic Resonance Imageing. Partial weight-bearing was then started, and full weight-bearing on the 15th week. Seven months after the injury, normal roetgraphic findings were obtained and the patient had no complaints.
