• The annual trend of body type, wide or narrow chest, after World War II was studied by referring to the Annual Report of School Health Statistical Survey from 1948 to 1989, of the Ministry of Education.Chest-girth (Brügsch's index) at every chronological age, from 5 to 17, of both sexes, was caluculated.Boys aged 15 to 17 and girls aged 16 to 17 maintained the status quo, girls aged 12 to 15 gradually went to the wide chest type, and both sexes aged 5 to 9 and boys aged 12 to 14 gradually went to the narrow chest type.
