Purpose of Research The purpose is to see, preparatory to manufacturing an automatic punching to a design without the design, being drawn on section paper, how exactly the design can be picked-up electrically. Result of Research Generally, photo electric elements are used for electrical picking-up of the design. In this research, however, the processes are as follows: 1. A design is sketched with conductive color. 2. The electric current is conducted through sweeping by contact wheel. 3. The punching machine is automatically operated. To check the reliability of the processes, a design was punched-up, a card was punched-up and cloth was woven by jacquard weaving machine. The exactness of pick-up was examined by another method in which the holes punched on recording paper by a recording apparatus were compared with the holes drawn up from the section paper of the same design. These examinations made it clear that curved figures were picked-up almost exactly and correctly; but that the lines of the warp direction of a stripe figure had somewhat different effects on woven goods by the least difference of random pick-up; and that slender lines of the warp direction did not continue unbroken. Therefore, it was made clear, too, that the picking-up of the stripe line less than 3 m⁄m wide was difficult.
