• To studying unevenness of the appearance of fabrics, we have investigated what characteristics influence yarn thickness sensible to the naked eye.<BR>Conclusions: (1) Measurement with the naked eye can detect the delicate the difference in yarn thickness between samples. (2) The naked eye is not influenced by interaction between samples or by methods of showing the samples. (3) The naked eye can see the thickness of a yarn body which includes hairiness. (4) Therefore, measurement with the naked eye shows the highest correlation with the apparent diameter of the yarn body which does not include hairiness. (5) Some relations among many factors are detected numerically by correlation co-efficient and factor weights.
