It was proven by experiments that the feeding speed of the roving is not equal to the circumferential velocity of the bottom back roll. This phenomenon is not. explained by the slip due to draft, since the roving goes faster than the roller surface even if there exists no draft. The influence of the diameters of the top and the bottom rolls and of the pitch of the flutes of the bottom roll on the motion of the roving is studied. The results do not coincide with these calculated after a simpler theory based on the curved center line of the roving. The motion of the roving is accelerated due to draft, even when the top roll weight is considerably large. It also depends upon the rotating moment of the top roll and upon the direction of the motion of the roving.
