The effect of the tensor gage, of the material of the drafting apron, and of its internal circumferential length on the pressure distribution on drafting aprons is studied using an induction-type pressure gage. The relationship between the tension of the spun yarn and its evenness is discussed.
The pressure distribution on nine kinds of aprons of different internal circumf erential lengths and of different materials is measured when tensor gage is between 4 and 5.5 mm. Comparing the strength of the yarn with its evenness, it is recognized that the maximum value of the pressure at the tensor is the most influential.
For a setting of 29 mm, the most uniform yarn is manufactured using an apron of the internal circumferential length of 111 mm. Used aprons give more uniform yarn with narrower tensor gage, and synthetic rubber aprons with larger width.
