The economic changes and the family correlate each other. What impact does the recent unstabilization of employment in Japanese companies give to the family life? Kimiko Kimoto reveals that Japanese companies still protect some core workers but exclude more temporary workers (women and the young) than before. Michiko Miyamoto describes that the unstabilization of employment hits mostly the poor young people just on the way to be independent of their parents and to make their own families. Shogo Takegawa suggests that the Japanese social security system must be reformed towards the Flexurity, which combines flexibility and security for everyone. And, two discussants explore how to change our way of working and our sense of value. Gender and social class are the important perspectives through the discussions.
