The authors describe the results of an experiment made on the above subject . Major results obtained are as follows : (1) The apparent density (bulkiness) of raw silk depends almostentirely upon the rate of the sericin content which is closely related with the cohesion and the arragement of cocoon filaments constituting raw silk. (2) From this result it has been found that the major factors affecting the bulkiness of raw silk in the reeling process are both the solubility of sericin in the cocoon-boiling process and the effect arising from the auxiliary apparatus which feeds the ends of cocoon filaments.
