• The ravimetric method for the determination of sizing agent (Usually PVA) on sized nylon yarns gives no accurate values owing to the elution of water-soluble matter from nylon. For this reason, a study has been made of how to determine the quantity of the sizing agent by a calorimetric method.<BR>When iodine is added to an aqueous PVA solution, an absorption bond at about 50mμ appears. The intensity of this absorption band follows Lambert-Beer's law. Its position does not change by the concentration of PVA. As the in tensity of the absorption band decreases gradually, the measurement had better be made within 10 minutes. The co-existace of oiling agent affects neither the intensity nor the position of the absorption. Addition of boric acid, however, increases the intensity.
