Purpose of study : <BR>An aggregate of fibers or a yarn changes its properties when twisted.<BR>The effects of various factors have been studied. Particularly, the effects of twisting on the gloss of the yarn are described in this report.<BR>Results obtained : <BR>(1) Regarding the relation between the number of twists and the contrast gloss (1θ/10), both cotton and nylon yarns show a tendency to decline in the contrast doss with the increase in the number of twists.<BR>(2) Cotton yarn does not show so striking a change in contrast gloss as nylon yarn.<BR>(3) The relative position of the incident light to the samples makes a difference in the contrast gloss. The contrast gloss is generally higher in the case of the incident light parallel to the direction of the yarn axis than in the case of the light perpendicular to the yarn axis.<BR>(4) The maximum value of reflected light in cotton yarn is observed at a somewhat more in creased angle of reflection than the normal reflection angle.<BR>(5) The contrast gloss of nylon yarn will be decreased sharply even by a slight twisting.
