Three experiments investigated the similarity between the reaction time in quick reading and the recall interval in free-recall memory tasks on the assumption that a read-out processing of letters in terms of accoustic code, that is, implicit vocalization occurs in both the temporal intervals. The results indicated that both the reaction time and the recall interval for words and nonwords (random string of letters) were affected by the number of letters and by the Word-Nonword difference.
