Selective concentration of metal ions was attempted with expectation that the solvent may be replaced by a membrane in the solvent extraction. Metal ions in the aqueous solution containing acetylacetone as a chelating agent were permeated through a polystyrene membrane under the pressure. Copper (II) ions were concentrated about 1.7 times in maximum, although the ions with low or too high chelate stability constants were rejected.
