For studying the changes of permeabilities of the erythrocyte membranes obtained from diabetic patients, inorganic phosphate (iP) and calcium in erythrocytes and in sera obtained from the dialysing patients with diabetic nephropathy, from the dialysing patients without diabetic nephropathy and from healthy adults were measured, respectively. The ratio of iP to Ca in erythrocyte was classified into two groups, that is, normal group and diabetic group. The score of iP/Ca was given 20 over as normal group and 5-20 as diabetic group, respectively. And also, the severity of diabetic disease was correlate to this score. The ratio of iP in erythrocyte to iP in serum corresponded to the degree of hypophosphataemia for the dialysing patients with diabetic nephropathy. These evidences suggest that the permeability of erythrocyte membrane obtained from the diabetic patients is varied in some degree compared that of diabetic.
