The authors carried out a series of experiments as regards any possible acquired immunity by the stomachal injection of Calmette-Guérin bacillus. The first, preliminary experiment included a number of guinea pigs, which provide the evidence of infection by the intrastomachal injection of tubercle bacilli applied in this experiment. 1.0 mgm of a virulent human type strain, suspended in 0.5 cc physiological salt solution, was injected into the filled stomach of animals through the abdominal wall by means of a canule of small caliber, The manipulation itself was without any injurious effect on the animals. After the lapse of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 10 weeks respectively, infection was found to be positive by Römer's skin test as well as by autopsy. The lesions were most pronounced in the mesenteric lymph glands nearest to the duodenum - the duodenal lymph glands, as the authors call them.
