In the previous report, the oxidation of fatty acids by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, human type strain Aoyama B, was studied by the method of simultaneous adaptation and it became presumable that fatty acids are oxidized by M. tuberculosis, chiefly by beta-oxidation. However, the results of these experiments were not sufficient to assert that the beta-oxidation took place. The experimental results supporting this idea, namely, some data on the effects of pH, the influence of the concentration of phosphate and the addition of cyclophorase members, and the indentification of the intermediate of the oxidation of ratty acid in paperchromatography, are summarized as follows:
