Schottel Pump-Jet is the jet propulsion equipment whereby the biggest possible thrust can constantly be generated omnidirectionally even in shallow waterways, utilizing the principle of the centrifugal pump. The equipment was successfully developed by SCHOTTEL, Germany in 1980, their enjoying delivery record of approximately 850 sets having so far been sold for installation onto various kinds of vessels including naval vessels not only in Europe mainly but also all over the world.<BR>This paper describes the principle, structure and characteristics of Pump-Jet, with additional explanation being made in respect of the comparison in performance with water jets, of the underwater noise level compared with conventional propellers, and of the comparison in performance with various type of thrusters for the case of the Pump-Jet to be used as a bow thruster.
