Particular consideration have been given to protect water treatment in planning the steam reheat cycle boiler of 105 kg/cm2g drum pressure installed on the 209, 000 DWT sister tanker Idcmitsu Maru and Shoju Maru, with the view to minimizing damage due to (a) hot spots on the water side of heating surfaces, (b) corrosion from bo iler water alkalinity, (c) contaminants trace-able make-up, drain and feed water to boiler, and (d) carry-over into steam of silica, phosphate and other dissolved impurities.<BR>These considerations for ensuring proper boiler water quality require application right from the stage of planning and design of the boiler, and must be followed up at the time of commissionning by adequate cleanig and blowing operation, acid carried through to the entire period of service operation by the ships crew.<BR>In service operation, the purity of the drain and make-up water is mainly controlled by measuring the electrical conductivity, the feed water by pH and residual hydrazine content, and the boiler water by pH and, phosphate content, with congruent control. A description is given of the general lines to be followed in order to maintain the Na/pO4mole ratio within the range of 2.6-2.8 by congruent control.
