The vulcanization of atactic polypropylene by dicumyl peroxide does not give a form-stable vulcanizate due to the degradation caused by beta-scission of polypropylene radical during vulcanization.The addition of liquid polybutadiene to the system leads to the formation of a form-stable vulcanizate. The difference in microstructure of polybutadiene affected remarkably the progress of vulcanization.The addition of 1, 2-polybutadiene gave rapid and high consumption of double bond, high crosslinking density and high crosslinking efficiency of more than 5. It is supposed that the peroxide vulcanization for 1, 2-polybutadiene-polypropylene blend proceeds by polybutadiene-polypropylene co-vulcanization propagated by radical transfer reaction to the double bond of 1, 2-polybutadiene.The addition of 1, 4-polybutadiene gave low consumption of double bond, low crosslinking density and low crosslinking efficiency of lower than unity. It is supposed that the peroxide vulcanization for 1, 4-polybutadiene-polypropylene blend proceeds by coupling of polymer radicals.
