The author has examined the reactions, which occur between concentrated sulfuric acid and natural or synthetic rubbers. He has found that : 1) Styrene-butadiene and acrylonitrilebutadiene rubbers harden their surfaces like natural rubber; all of them contain much diolefinic structural units and it has been thought to be a cyclization phenomenon : 2) chloroprene rubbers evolve hydrogene chloride gas and they harden their surfaces : 3) butyl rubbers don't alter their appearences : 4) acrylic ester type, polysulfide type and silicon rubbers dissolve in the acid. All the phenomena seem usable for distinguishing the kind of rubbers.
