We have studied the thermal and ultraviolet oxidation of uncured cispolybutadiene rubber films, Ameripole CB-220 and Diene Rubber NF-35.
The changes in the infrared absorption spectrum, intrinsic viscosity and insolubility of these materials which occured in the progress of oxidation are described.
We conclude that Diene Rubber NF-35 is more degraded than Ameripole CB-220 from the charactaristic absorption band of OH and C=O group and isomerization phenomena of high cispolybutadiene; and at the same time that the intrinsic viscosity and insolubility of these materials in the progress of oxidation indicate predominance of crosslinking over scission.
