The Society of Japanese Women Scientists (SJWS) has long discussed, since its initial proposal by Prof. M. Suziki (President 1999-2003) and continued by Prof. M. Sasaki (President 2003-2007), introducing a position of Science Communicator, who could play a role in communicating the science world to the public, and how they should be selected and registered. Some universities have opened master and doctor courses for science communication under the name of science interpreter and science mediator. The targets of these courses are mainly the young. However, the targets of SJWS discussion are generally of retirement age over sixty years old. Culminating from these long and sincere discussions, a new system of SJWS Science Communicator has been created and I was registered as the first SJWS Science Communicator by Prof. N. Oshima (President 2007- ) in June, 2007. A case report will be made here on science communication, as a regional collaboration, at a nuclear energy site (Rokkasho, Aomori). This will especially focus on methodology for the purpose of coexistence between the public and scientists in the regional society.
