When 20ml of an oolong tea infusion of 1.2 Brix was absorbed into a column packed with 30g of Kieselguhr powder, 99.8% of the caffeine in the infusion was eluted out with 150ml of methylene chloride. The recovery of tannin in the decaffeinated tea infusion was 95.4% of the tannin content dissolved in the original infusion.
