Variation of free sugar contents in seeds and fruits of citrus trees of some different varieties during their ripening period were determined by the use of the application of the cutting method of paper chromatograms, micro-Bertrand and glucose-oxidase methods. The following results were obtained. 1. Glucose and sucrose were present in the seeds and fruits of citrus trees throughout the ripening process in free form. Raffinose and stachyose were only detected in seeds of last stages of ripeness in extremely small quantities. 2. The contents of glucose in seed of citrus trees gave maximum values at the unripe stage of seed and gave minimum valus at the later stage of ripeness. 3. Sucrose contents in the seeds showed minimum values at the ea rly stage of seed-bearing and gradual increase with the development and ripening of the seeds. 4. Glucose and sucrose were observed as main free sugars in the fruits at the last stage of ripeness.
