There are two purposes of this paper. The one is to do the research on the developing process and circulating structure of Korean domestic animal markets. The other is to grasp both the spatial structure and its recent changes of the domestic animal markets in rural area. For this study the domestic animal markets at Kongju, Chungnam, are chosen as samples. The results of the study are as follows:1. Domestic animal markets in Korea were originated almost at the same time of the beginning of the periodical markets. Because cattles are the major dealings at the domestic animal markets in Korea, so the animal market in Korea is called “cattle market.”Most of the cattle markets are opened within the site of periodical markets.2. Each cattle market was opened in order; hence, cattle dealers visited each market in order for the gains produced by the difference of price. Sometimes brokers engaged in cattle dealing between farmers and dealers.3. According to the traffic development and mechanized farming, Korea cattles working value is greatly decreased; therefore, small cattle markets will gradually shrink.4. Korean cattle markets are classified into producing center markets, carrying-out markets, and big consuming markets. The producing center markets are basic markets to which 90% of Korean cattle markets belong. Carrying-out markets comprise several producing center markets and they connect producing centers with consuming cities. But the functions of them are gradually decreasing. Big consuming markets are permanent markets in big cities and the places where cattles from. poth the producing centers and carrying-out markets are finally dealt.5. The cattle-collecting area like town-scale markets including Kongju cattle market is gradually expanding. One reason is that the network of the roads on which a large truck can transport cattle is being improved. Now the farmers who own cattle do not go to country cattle markets for dealing because the price of cattle is not so high as that of towns. Another reason is that government supports the town-scale cattle markets by enlarging the facilites of them and by reducing the unsanitary country cattle markets.
