This study focuses primarily on the migratory thatchers from Echigo (Niigata Prefecture). There are six different origins and migration patterns. They are outlined in this study, and summarized as follows.1. Thatchers from the Kubiki area worked in the Ina Valley and in the Nagano Basin during summer.2. Thatchers from the Uonuma area worked in Josyû during winter.3. Thatchers from Santo worked in Josyû during winter.4. Thatchers from the Nozumi area worked in the nothern Niigata Prefecture during summer and worked for sake breweries in Hokkaidô during winter.5. Thatchers from the Higashikanbara area worked in Nakadori (Abukuma River Basin) during winter and in the Inawashiro Basin or the Aizu Basin during summer.6. Thatchers from the Kaetsu area worked in the Fukushima Prefecture during winter.
