• Coliform organisms have been isolated from polluted river water by using single drugs. The resistant coliform organisms isolated by Streptomycin, Tetracycline, Kanamycine and Chloramphenicol were 20%, 10%, 5% and 1% of coliform organisms in the river water, respectively.Of these resistant organisms, 73-83% were identified as E. coli. Most of the E. coli strains showed the multiple drug resistance (95%). Among the E. coli strains isolated by Chloramphenicol, 77% transferred their resistance to Salmonella typhimurium.
