Factors associated with dysgeusia were evaluated in 853 patients with anosmia or hyposmia. Selection of factors in 593 patients for use in quantitative analysis revealed the means of detectable and perceptible olfactory loss, duration of anosmia or hyposmia and the condition at onset to be involved in the complaint of dysgeusia. Two general factors, age and sex, were added to these six factors for quantitative analysis. The levels of involvement of the factors in dysgeusia were individually determined by quantitative analysis class 2. Duration of anosmia or hyposmia showed the highest level of involvement, followed by the mean detectable olfactory loss, the mean perceptible loss, age and the condition at onset in that order. Subdivision of each factor showed over the age of 60, sudden onset, a mean detectable olfactory loss of 2.0-2.9 and a mean perceptible olfactory loss of 5.0-5.7 or over 5.8 to be the major causes of dysgeusia.
