• Three Japanese aphasic patients with mild right-hand paralysis were examined by three tests for writing of Kanji characters. The first test consisted of writing ten Kanji with the right hand. The second required writing the same characters with the left hand. The third called for writing the same characters with right hand but separating each stroke. The results revealed that the patients wrote almost all characters continuously with one stroke in the first test, but had difficulty with the second and third tests. These findings indicate that the subjects' writing was carried out through processes based on motor memory to a greater extent than they were affected by their right-hand paralysis or writing habits.
