This follow-up study was designed to assess the effects of our early auditoryoral education of hearing-impaired children. Fifteen hearing-impaired children, who were integrated in regular classes of elementary and junior high school and who had been trained in our auditory-oral program during infancy, were administered audiological assessment, the word auditory recognition test and the WISC-R Intelligence Test. The results of the word auditory recognition test were obtained under two conditions : audition alone, and a combination of audition and lipreading.<BR>Data analysis showed that the results of the word auditory recognition test correlated with heaing level and verbal ability, and that the subjects supplemented their lack of auditory reception by lipreading. The subjects, who had expressed two-word combinations at 36-months-old, achieved more than 90 verbal IQ scores on the WISC-R Test. A survery of their adaptive levels in regular classes showed that certain factors, other than hearing level and verbal abiility, had influences on their adaptive levels.
