Quantitative determination of indium by the spectrophotometric method with the using neo-thoron (ο-arsonophenylazochromotropic acid) has been investigated. A complex salt of indium neo-thoronate had a maximum absorption at 580 mμ in a buffer solution of pH 6.0, and the absorbancy at this wave length was proportional to the concentration of 50250γ indium/25 m<I>l</I>. Although the sensitivity was not very sharp, the method is suitable for semi-micro determination of indium. Although the color reaction was disturbed by the presence of zinc, lead and copper, but the method is advantageous for quantitative determination of indium as cadmium caused no interference. In a buffer solution of pH 6, indium and neo-thoron formed a salt in the ratio of 2:3.
