A convenient modified method of greater rapidity and accuracy for determining the cobalt content in cobalt naphthenate has been developed. The cobalt naphthenate was treated with sulfuric acid (1 to 1) under stirring and boiling the solution thus obtained was cooled and extracted with carbon tetrachloride.<BR>Then cobalt(II)ion in the water layer with a pink color in water was estimated photometrically. Absorption maximum was obtained at round 517 mμ, and cobalt concentration from 10 to 250 mg can be measured according to Beer's law. The method is rapid, requiring about 20 minutes for a complete analysis.
