Polarograms of vinyl acetate, in the presence of mercuric acetate in methanol with sodium nitrate as a supporting salt, have been investigated and found that there is a reducing wave at -0.35 volt in mercury additive compound of vinyl acetate, followed by a mercury wave at about about +0.35 volt. The mercury wave was inversely related to the concentration of vinyl acetate and that of wave height of mercury additive compound of vinyl acetate was directly proportional to the concentration of vinyl acetate. The wave of mercury additive compound of vinyl acetate was not influenced by the presence of acetic acid, acetaldehyde and crotonaldehyde which are usually present with the vinyl acetate, therefore, quantitative determination of vinyl acetate is possible from this wave height. Also, stylene, vinyl butylate and allyl alcohol showed the same tendency and their quantitative determinations are possible.
