Various methods have been used for the quantitative determination of arsenic, but these methods have been unsuitable because they give inaccurate results for certain cases and do not permit rapid analyses of many samples at the same time. By this new method the ore, after fusion with a mixture of sodium peroxide and sodium carbonate, is treated with a standard iodine solution or sodium thiosulfate solution. Rapid and accurate results in the analyses of many samples at the same time can be obtained. In the case of a small amount of arsenic in the sample, the arsenic is separated together with manganese dioxide from the iron, the arsenic and a small amount of phosphorus are combined with ammonium molybdate, the phosphorus is extracted by the use of amyl alcohol; and the arsenic is quantitatively determined by reducing ammonium arsenomolybdate with hydrazine sulfate and measuring the light absorbancy of molybdenum blue with an S70 filter. Experimental results of several samples by the above method gave good agreement with the data of standard analyses.
