A solvent extraction-acidimetry for the determination of free acid in ferrous sulfate arising from the industrial process has been investigated.<BR>Acetone was more suitable solvent than the other solvent. Weigh 5.0 gr of sample in a 100 m<I>l</I>, beaker, add 30 m<I>l</I> of acetone, stand for 5 minutes with occasional stirring, and filtrate the solution in vacuo.<BR>Wash the beaker three times with 5 m<I>l</I> of acetone: pour the washer on the residue.<BR>Then, wash the residue three times with another 5 m<I>l</I> of acetone. Dilute the filtrate to about 100 m<I>l</I> with water, and add a few drops of mixed indicator. Then titrate with <I>N</I>/5 sodium hydroxide solution.<BR>The determination is carried out in a short time; it requires about 10 minutes.<BR>This method also have been successfully applied to the determination of free acid in aluminum sulfate.
