A simple reservoir-cupped conical electrode was applied for the spectro-chemical determination of magnesium in titanium sponge. The sample was dissolved in hydrochloric acid and diluted to a definite volume. The solution was put into a polyethylene cup into which a graphite electrode was inserted at the center. After 40 seconds prespark by A. C., the analysis was made using a line pair of Ti 2832.61A and Mg 2792.53A. with 90 seconds exposure. 0.04-0.05% of magnesium in titanium sponge was determined quite rapidly with the standard deviation of 0.0019%. The electrode used was easy to prepare and inexpensive, and the method was most suitable for the routine analysis and might be applied to many other solutions.
