Turbidimetry, infrared absorption spectrometry and ultraviolet absorption spectrophotometry were compared for the determination of divinylacetylene in acrylonitrile synthesized using Nieuwland catalyst. It was found that the errors in determination by the above methods were±0.001%, 0.07% and 0.00002%, respectively. The turbidimetry was affected strongly by the presence of impurities and was inappropriate for the practical application. The infrared absorption spectrometry was unsuitable for determination of low concentration, while the ultraviolet absorption spectrophotometry was superior, and this could be utilized not only for the analysis of crude acrylonitrile, but for the quality inspection of the commercial products.
