Degree of graphitization directly influences the quality of carbon products. The surest way of determining the degree of graphitization is known to be to measure the specific gravity which is however time consuming. Various other methods for the use in practice have been devised in the past.<BR>The authors report the possibility of the measurement utilizing the relation of the specific gravity to the ultraviolet reflecting power of carbon affected by graphitization.<BR>A simple apparatus has been contrived for this purpose using a Hg lamp and a photo-tube responding only to 2537Å rays without filter.
