The method is based on the formation of red Fe (III)-TTA chelate at pH between 3 and 4 in the presence of excess iron (III) chloride solution. The color can be measured by absorptiometry at 530 mμ. In the presence of some metal ions which are extractable in the organic solvent as their TTA-chelates, the ions should be masked with EDTA before the determination of TTA. The content of TTA in an aqueous solution and in an organic solvent could be estimated by this method, especially in a liquid-liquid extraction system of various TTA-chelates.
