Xylenol Orange reacts with zinc and cadmium to form 1 : 1 chelates which show absorption maxima at about 562 and 575 mμ, respectively. The color of these complexes was changed from red to yellow with EDTA.<BR>Xylenol Orange was available as an indicator in the photometric titration of zinc in cadmium and zinc mixture with EDTA. Cadmium was well masked by 0.50.1<I>M</I> iodide ion at pH 4.45.6. Zinc was titrated with EDTA at 562 mμ, although negative bias was found at pH 4.4. At pH 5.6, on the other hand, the rate of the titration reaction was diminished remarkably.
