Uranyl ion was first combined with benzoic acid to make its anionic complex (uranyl tribenzoate) and then TPAC was added as an ion-associating reagent. In the range of pH 35, the uranyl tribenzoate reacted quantitatively with TPAC and formed white precipitate in the ratio of 1:1, which was extractable into chloro-form. The log-log plot of distribution ratio <I>vs</I>. pH clarified that uranyl ion was coordinated with three benzoate ions. Effects of diverse ions to this extraction were also examined. WO42- hindered seriously the extraction and must be absent. As much as 99% of uranium could be extracted into chloroform at the optimum pH in the absence of diverse ions.
