A spectrophotometric method for quantitative micro-analysis of tellurium in steel was established.<BR>Utilizing the difference in extractability of Te(VI) and Te(IV) with MIBK in hydrochloric acid solution, tellurium was separated from the other elements. The Te-Bismuthiol-II complex was then extracted into CHCl<SUB>3</SUB> after color-development with Bismuthiol-II.<BR>This complex was stable at least 24 hrs. after color-development, and its molar extinction coefficient at 330 mμ was 3.5×10<SUP>4</SUP>.<BR>The analysis of steel samples by this method gave satisfactory results for as low as 5×10<SUP>-4</SUP>% of tellurium.
