A rapid spectrophotometric determination of phosphours in ferrovanadium using solvent mixture (<I>n</I>-butanol+chloroform) has been carried out as follows.<BR>Take up 0.250.50 g of sample with nitric acid and sulfuric acid, and evaporate to fumes of sulfuric acid. After cooling add ferrous ammonium sulfate to reduce vanadium and then ammonium molybdate immediately. The phosphomolybdic acid was extracted with a solvent mixture and was reduced with stannous chloride. The absorbance of the molybdenum blue produced was measured at wavelength of around 700 nm to determine the phosphorous content. The time required was about 40 minutes.
