The content of U235 in natural uranium is spectrographically analyzed with a hollow cathode discharge tube.A new technique is developed in loading the sample into the cathode cavity of the discharge tube.Uranium sample to be analyzed is electrodeposited onto the cavity wall in a chemical form of 2UO3.NH3.3H2Ousing uranyl nitrate aqueous solution as the electrolyte.<BR>In the power supply for the hollow cathode discharge tube, a half-wave rectifier is used instead of an ordinary full-wave rectifier, in order to stabilize the discharge.<BR>The operating conditions of the discharge tube are: 250 volt 350 mA in argon at 3 mmHg.After a predischarge for20 minutes, three exposures, 3 minutes in each, are carried out successively.<BR>The spectrograms are obtained with a Jarrell-Ash 3.4 meter Ebert-type spectrograph, equiped with a prism ordersortor. The grating used has 7500 grooves per inch, and is blazed at18.3°Tne reciprocal dispersion at 4244 Å is 1.86 Å/mm, which makes it possible to separate the uranium lines at 4244.124 Å (U235) and 4244.372 Å (U238) completely.<BR>The analytical calibration curve made in a range 0.712-20.26% of U235 shows that the C.V.value is as good as0.7-5.9%.
