The conditions which govern the spacing of the periodic markings developed on the 110 planes of Al single crystals during electropolishing, have been examined.The spacing is adjustable in a range from 480A to 900A, in which a linear relation is found between the spacing and the time of electro-polishing. It has been shown that the periodic markings can be used as a grazing-incidence diffraction grating for long wavelength X-rays such as C-Kα and Be-Kα lines.
