Spectrochemical analysis for gaseous elements in metal was studied experimentally by means of a graphite hollow cathode discharge.Dependence of the discharge characteristics on argon pressure and cathode geometry and also the effect of insersion of sample were studied.The study was carried out on the spectra of two wavelength regions photographed by a 3.4 m plane grating spectrograph.In the region from 7300Å to 8550Å, onlyargon and oxygen lines appeared and the back ground was very low.In the region from 2750Å to 5250Å, argon and nitrogen lines appeared with a number of lines of metals which would be owing to the cathode spattering.Analytical conditions for the deter-mination of oxygen content in steel were also studied.
